Highlight On Imagination Stage

October 18, 2014

My mother has been a strong supporter of Imagination Stage Children's Theatre and has advocated for the work they do through corporate giving for many years.  When I returned to Maryland and she learned that they had yet to choose the 2014 Gala Chairs, she cheerfully threw my name into the ring.  I was very honored but a bit nervous.

The Imagination Stage Annual Silent Auction and Gala is their main fundraiser of the year.  So the pressure was on to come through with a fabulous Gala, to fulfill the vision of Director Bonnie Fogel, to sell the tickets, get the auction items, secure the support of local and national heavy hitters for financial support.  I had so many balls in the air with my own three kids I can't believe I thought there were enough hours in the day to take the project on. The 2014 Gala was also a transitional point for Imagination Stage as that evening they were announcing that in partnership with the National Theatre, they would be expanding into Washington, DC--  A bold and exciting initiative!

Lucky for me after making all sorts of promises I couldn’t possibly ever keep to my friend and neighbor T. Barron, I secured her as my fabulous Co-Chair.  We were then doubly blessed to have Russell Simmons support the Gala as our Honorary Chair, bringing his flavor to the theme of the event: READY, SET, CHANGE THE WORLD! Which challenges us to nourish children’s creativity today to prepare them to take on the innovative world of tomorrow.  The Gala honored Psalmayene 24, playwright and director, who has created incredible Imagination Stage productions that bring Hip-Hop and traditional fairytales to the stage with fun and entertaining twists and humor.

Working on the Gala with the staff at Imagination Stage allowed me to see their dedication and artistry in action. I fell in love with Imagination Stage like never before.  Children are enriched beyond measure by theie presence.  This is why we as a family we love Imagination Stage and have given our time and fundraising energy to them in support.  Check out their website for more information about the wonderful programs and performances that you and your children can enjoy.  I would also encourage a direct donation here on their page.

The Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Washington

BGCGW’s 14 sites—covering a territory of 75 miles that stretches from Manassas, Virginia to Germantown, MD—serve as safe havens for children. The clubs are open when schools are not, and provide a safe, comfortable, and fun alternative to youth who would otherwise be home alone or on the street. Over 1,200 youth attend the Clubs for activities every day, to see their friends, and to spend time with positive and encouraging adults. Clubs are open after school on weekdays. Some have Saturday hours, and many offer full days during school holidays and summers. Clubs welcome every child, adolescent, or teenager for a nominal annual membership fee, but will not turn any child away for inability to pay.

Strathmore - Art's Within Reach

Strathmore is a home for world class performing and visual arts. With 16 acres, 3 venues, and 8 presenting partners, Strathmore is broader than a campus and bigger than a performance. We are a reflection of our vibrant community and an opportunity to get closer to arts experiences that broaden our perspectives and make us feel alive.

ART WITHIN REACH:

Wonder is for everyone. Every kid has the right to experience the joy, connection and creativity that the arts provide. Strathmore is particularly committed to engaging under-served young people in music, dance, theater, and visual art. Geography or socio-economic circumstance can make it hard for children to get involved on their own, and so we offer a range of programs in our community to put the arts within reach for everyone.

Jewish Women International

JWI is the leading Jewish organization empowering women and girls – through economic literacy; community training; healthy relationship education; and the proliferation of women’s leadership. Our innovative programs, advocacy and philanthropic initiatives protect the fundamental rights of all girls and women to live in safe homes, thrive in healthy relationships, and realize the full potential of their personal strength.

The Jerusalem Hills Children's Home, JWI's cornerstone program since 1943, treats Israel's most vulnerable and neglected children, helping them to overcome the trauma of their early years.

The Children's Home offers a home and treatment for about 100 boys and girls ages 7-18 from all sectors of Israeli life. The facility is internationally known for its unique approach, emphasizing drug-free treatment, intensive counseling, family involvement in the rehabilitative process, and an intensive training program for professional staff. Children are able to attend school on-site as part of a comprehensive treatment plan. In addition to residential treatment, the Children's Home also runs an out-patient clinic.

An accredited training center for special education, social work and clinical psychology students, the Children's Home conducts research programs and exchanges information with Ben Gurion University, Hebrew University, the Yale University Child Study Center, Baylor University and other international institutions.
